Sanctus – The Board of Directors of the Sanctarian National Times today announced that longtime Foreign Editor of the paper, Geoffrey Yeates, will be succeeding Sarah Pledys as Editor-in-Chief with immediate effect. Pledys recently announced to the SNT newsroom she would be retiring upon appointment of her successor after seven years in the post.
Yeates was considered a frontrunner for the position, having served with the paper for decades, and for the last fifteen years as Foreign Editor, and it’s understood of the editorial team he was the only one who applied for the job. It has been confirmed, however, that the Board did interview external candidates, including personalities from television as well as other national newspapers. Announcing the immediate appointment, the Board called Yeates a “dedicated and conscientious journalist” with “exceptional proven editorial and leadership skills”.
In an email to SNT staff after the announcement today, Yeates thanked the Board for their confidence, and his colleagues for their support during his time at the paper. He also wrote that some journalists in the newsroom would be moved to cover new beats in order to “expand their journalist portfolios” and “make them better reporters”.
Note: SNT policy when reporting on matters to do with the newspaper, its Board, or its staff is to publish without editorial oversight or interference.
