Lauchenoirian Election: Conservatives on Top; Communist Party Wiped Out

In a shocking result, the Conservative Party has won the most seats in the Lauchenoirian Federal Parliamentary Election, though far short of a majority with 78. They are trailed in second place by the Liberals at 61, closely followed by the Greens (58) and Together for Lauchenoiria (55). This is the first election which the Liberals have lost since 2014. The Communist Party has also lost all their seats; though the splinter group True Communist Movement has doubled their representation, taking them up to 26.

The Left Alliance is the top anti-capitalist party at 45; the poorest showing of the anti-capitalist parties since the 1940s. Voters also rejected outright Agramunt’s version of “compassionate communism”; moving either to the Left Alliance or the hardline True Communist Movement. Anti-capitalist parties now only make up less than 20% of the Federal Parliament – far fewer than those who voted No in the 2017 capitalism referendum (37.7%); suggesting that acceptance of capitalism has grown greatly.

With no party, or two parties, able to form a government; extensive coalition negotiations will begin immediately. The most likely new Prime Minister will be Thomas Averforth of the Conservatives, though this is not guaranteed. The most likely result will be a centre-right Conservative/Liberal/Together coalition; with centre-left parties needing at least one right-leaning party to join – unless the True Communist Movement are willing to work with the Liberals, which is highly unlikely.

The pro-Kerlile Feminist Party has also managed to increase their representation, jumping from 4 seats to 10; which will cause concern to many. Also on 10 are the Catholic Party, which is based in Costeno but runs candidates Lauchenoiria-wide. The far-right Costenan Resurgence failed to gain any seats, though their percentage of votes did increase considerably. Lauchenoiria First has retained representation, though has dropped 8 seats, landing on 14.
