Ben Bo Bien, Doi Nam – As the people of Doi Nam awoke this morning, they were greeted by the results of the first elections in the country since the toppling of the previous Vuong Regime. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the face of the revolution and the interim president, Phan Hong Nhat – known also as Phantasium, won a 66% majority. His Future of Doi Nam (TLD) party also won a narrow majority in the People’s House with 53% of the seats, with the Doinamese Democratic Socialists party coming in a relatively distant second at 37% of the seats.
More hopeful however is that both internal and independent observes reported little to no attempts to influence the electoral outcome. A few notable incidents in the Dyung Bo province were noted by observers from the Laeralian NGO The Center for Multiparty Democracy. Once reported, Doinamese police in conjunction with election officials, arrested the perpetrators. They have been taken into custody and charged with conspiracy to commit election interference and are now awaiting trial. Notably, Dyung Bo province has show the largest support for former President Vuong Duy Tam. It has been speculated that this was an attempt to try and reinstall the former President to power by manipulating the results.
For Vuong Duy Tam himself, speaking from a villa in southern Xiomera, he has denounced the election results as illegitimate and “obviously manipulated in the interest of legitimizing an illegal insurgency” against him and his regime. He has demanded an international intervention into the country to restore what he calls “proper democratic norms” and a recount of the elections. This has been rejected by the current Doinamese government and multiple nations including Greater Acadia and Whetosonghnee.
“The fact of the matter was that, as far as both the Doinamese government and reputable independent observers can determine, there was little to no voting irregularities. Simply put, Mr. Vuong has no legal leg to stand on in this case. We stand by the results of the Doi Nam elections, and congratulate President Phan on his win and look forward to increasing cooperation in the future.” Stated Jonathan Belleview, spokesperson for the Acadian government.
Whetosonghnean High Speaker Jimmy Seven-Feather echoed these sentiments on a post on his social media. “I congratulate Mr. Phan on his win in last nights elections. He has led his country through tough times as a war leader, and has been an outspoken defender of human rights and freedoms through his social media presence. I look forward to working with him and his cabinet in an official capacity and wish him the very best. May Doi Nam look towards a brighter and prosperous future.”
