SUYANG: Meteorologists warn of a scorching weekend for Haesan as a high pressure front has stalled out in the Albarine Sea, trapping warm air between the sea and the Maehwa Mountains. The estimated high is expected to reach at least 40° in most of the Sugang Valley, including nearly all of Suyang Metropolitan Area. Temperatures in the high 30°s are expected through much of the south and southwest, while temperatures will remain moderate in the North, Plains, and East.

Official government advice is the following:

  • If possible, stay inside. Leave beaches and public pools for those who have nowhere else to turn.
  • Use air conditioning sparingly in the evening hours and overnight to conserve the electric grid.
  • Stay hydrated. Even when not thirsty, be sure to drink water.
  • Try to plan essential trips in the early morning hours. Urban spaces absorb heat, and it is often more dangerous outside than temperatures alone would predict, even after sunset. Cities will be coolest in the hours before the sun rises.

A heat warning is in effect starting at 7 am WHT tomorrow for Sugang and Suyang Provinces, along with parts of Namhae Province and Sinhan Province. A heat advisory is additionally in effect for the remainder of Namhae and Sinhan, along with the Northern Maritimes and parts of Eungang Province, Imyu Province, Seocheon Province, and Yeongnam Province. Follow your local government for guidance on where to seek shelter or relief, and follow hma.gov.hn/heat for updates and expert advice.
