DNA testing reveals leader of monarchist rebellion may be imposter
In an exclusive story investigated by DTNS reporter Bodii Kherlen, an explosive allegation that the leader of the monarchist revolt in western Taragai is not who she claims to be has been proven true by conclusive DNA testing.
Kherlen outlined the investigation he conducted at a press conference held by the internationally recognized government of Taragai in Bor-Öndör. The self-declared khatun leading the revolt, calling herself Ebegei Qoriqacha, attended an official gathering in the city of Khongkhortai at the end of last year. At that event, two items bearing her DNA were obtained. “We obtained a glass which she drank from, and a napkin she wiped her face with. Both items had sufficient DNA evidence on them to run a comparison match,” Kherlen said.
The comparison match in question was run against DNA obtained from the body of Medekhgüi Qoriqacha, the last Khan of Taragai. This DNA sample was provided by Ankhbayar Jirgal, the former custodian of the Khan’s tomb. “The DNA testing was done by two separate laboratories, one here in Bor-Öndör and another in Misumi. Both tests revealed the same result – the person calling herself Ebegei Qoriqacha is virtually a 0% match genetically to the Qoriqacha lineage,” Kherlen said. Jirgal also provided genealogical records kept at the Khan’s tomb which further help prove that Ebegei cannot be a Qoriqacha, Kherlen said.
At the press conference, Taragaian President Argasun Qorchi blasted “the fake pretender, I don’t even know if I should call her Ebegei, who knows who the [expletive deleted] she is”. Qorchi also blasted the Xiomeran forces currently occupying western Taragai supporting her. “I don’t know if the Xiomerans knew she was fake, and this is just another of their thieves’ tricks. I don’t know if this fake khatun is so good she was able to dupe them as skillfully as she duped everyone else. I don’t care. It is now exceedingly, painfully clear that there is absolutely no legitimate reason for the Xiomerans to be here, and they must leave our country immediately.” Qorchi said that if Xiomeran forces do not begin voluntarily withdrawing from Taragai by the end of September, his government will ask LIDUN to draft a resolution on the matter. Taragai is not yet a LIDUN member, but has reportedly applied for membership for this specific purpose.
The Taragaian government has provided copies of the DNA testing obtained through DTNS to multiple regional governments as confirmation of the allegations against Ebegei. Despite this, there has been no public response either from the rebels in Khongkhortai, or the Xiomeran government. Xiomeran forces in western Taragai have instituted a shutdown of mobile phone service and internet service in the area they control. They have also stopped all air and rail service from the few airfields and rail lines operating in western Taragai, as well as blockaded the few roads in the area. While communication or travel into western Taragai has become virtually non-existent, government forces observing the frontlines there have reported that Xiomeran forces seem to be reinforcing their garrisons and strengthening their positions at facilities controlled by the rebel government.
