Frontrunner Inverviews: Sancha Groenbard

Federation City, Greater Acadia – As the Electoral Race enters the final stretch, we decided to highlight a candidate from the rather fringe True Liberty Alliance. While the current polling places the two members of the TLA as roughly neck and neck, the slight frontrunner appears to be the True Acadia party under Sancha Groenbard. We sat down with Sancha to get her views on the issues facing Acadia:

Gaunt: “Hello Ms. Groenbard. Thank you for taking the time today.”

Groenbard: “The pleasure is all mine, Mr. Gaunt.”

Gaunt: “Fantastic. Let’’s start with some of your more outspoken criticisms of Acadian society and government. You’ve called on the Acadian government to cease building hostilities with the Xiomeran government. You called the current issues with harassment of the Caxcanan communities a “self-inflicted wound”. Would you care to elaborate on that?”

Groenbard: “Well simply put, we have chosen to antagonize Xiomera instead of working with it. Xiomera remains one of the largest economies in the world, and also one of the most capable militarily. And we chose to oppose them. Naturally, they fought back and we are paying the price. In order to tackle the problem of harassment, we must tackle the root cause. That we, artificially, manufactured an opposition to the Xiomeran state. In reality, Acadia and Xiomera have more in common than not.”

Gaunt: “How so?”

Groenbard: “Look at the economy. It’s struggling, and Acadians know it. The reality is that we know that the current socialist system is not working. It’s too much of a tangled mass of small, disconnected firms that are far too separated from each other. It’s inefficient. And that’s why the economy is slowing. The current system can’t move fast enough to keep up with how fast things are going. It’s creating a bottleneck. Now look at Xiomera. A powerful economy where efficient corporations rule the roost. They can do what they need to, as long as they have the vision to do it. And they do.”

Gaunt: “So you would undo the social net that has driven the Acadian Economy for over a century?”

Groenbard: “Yes. I believe that the social net was more a hindrance to the Acadian state than a help. The reality is, we should be even richer than we are now. Xiomera proves that without a shadow of a doubt.”

Gaunt: “And you aren’t worried about Calhualyana’s dictatorial rule?”

Groenbard: “You see a dictator. I see a visionary. She dreams of a strong, prosperous nation. Frankly, every world leader should look to her as an example. I know I do.”

Gaunt: “So what about Huenya? Do they not deserve to have a prosperous nation?”

Groenbard: “They will have one under Xiomera. Huenya is a failing state and will eventually collapse. That much is obvious. Their government is inept and lacks vision. Xiomera has a duty to step in and fix things and give them the strength and prosperity they deserve.”

Gaunt: “So how would you handle the current conflict in Huenya.”

Groenbard: “Well, I would stop putting good money after bad. Huenya cannot effectively make use of our support. That money can be better spent elsewhere.”

Gaunt: “Such as?”

Groenbard: “Our own military for one. The Kerlile Crisis has shown that we are thoroughly unprepared to fight our enemies abroad. We need to increase our defense budget to meet our needs. Transitioning away from conscription was a mistake, frankly. The failures of the South Acadian War were from weak-kneed politicians and a lack of assets for our military. We need to make ourselves unassailable.”

Gaunt: “So you’d re-implement conscription?”

Groenbard: “Without hesitation. I would also increase funding towards the military industry sector to boost output. We need to grow our armed forces in order to maintain our sovereignty and show that Acadia is not a nation of weaklings.”

Gaunt: “And what would you do about housing?”

Groenbard: “Again, a failure of the social net. Not enough homes are built because there’s no market forces to push for their construction. We need to reorganize our economy to be self-regulating, rather than relying on government to do it.”

Gaunt: “Alright, thank you for your time, Ms. Groenbard”

Groenbard: “And I thank you for yours.”
