Councillor Lucia Viallamando of the Council of Kerlile has been hospitalised after reportedly experiencing chest pains during a meeting with officials responsible for running local services in the New Luria region of Kerlile. The Councillor, 60, was rushed from the meeting after clutching her chest while a local official discussed rural waste collection figures for 2024 yesterday afternoon. The information was not released until today while the authorities investigated the situation. It is now believed that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the event.
Viallamando is a traditional gynarchist, and an opponent of the recent reforms to Kerlian governance. She has increased her personal security fourfold since 2019, and has recently been challenging the decision to hold open elections in May of this year. This, according to the Kerlian National Police, has made her a “strong target for political assassination”. However, their preliminary investigation has concluded that there are unlikely to be suspicious circumstances. Doctors treating Viallamando have refused to publicly comment, but sources within the police service have said that hospital staff informed police that is a genuine medical issue.
Viallamando’s daughter and heir, Keala, was seen entering the hospital where her mother is being treated. Keala, 29, has rarely been seen in public over the last decade, and little is known about her political positions. She is seen as “something of a recluse”, according to Professor Liese Saunders, who teaches Council Studies at the University of Maytown. Her appearance in public is “worrying”, the professor went on to say, indicating that “Councillor Viallamando may be more unwell than has so far been stated”.
The meeting of the New Luria Local Affairs Committee has been postponed until next week, rather than tomorrow as Kerlian custom would dictate; as it is seen as unlucky to conduct business during a new moon in the Lurian religion, which around 37% of people in the province follow. The religion, which originated on the now-Lauchenoirian island of Aeluria, was brought to Kerlile by the Viallamando family during the Founding, and remains the second religion of the region behind Singularist Secadualism, though it is unpopular in the rest of the country.
