Protests Spread After Death; 52 Arrests So Far

Anti-government protests in Zongongia have spread throughout the country after a protester died falling in a river at a protest in the capital of Sneedville. Currently, a total of 17 consecutive protests are occurring in cities, towns and one village in all corners of the country. Protesters have also been increasingly clashing with police, with demonstrators instigating violent encounters on multiple occasions by throwing rocks, eggs and other projectiles towards police lines.

The primary demonstration in Sneedville has swelled to approximately 8,000 people with more expected to join in coming days. The protests are continuing 24 hours a day, with protesters appearing to take “shifts” which are being organised partly via social media. Police have repeatedly asked protesters to leave, to which they responded with booing, jeering, and increased projectiles being thrown through the air. Protesters are demanding Prime Minister Kristensen resigns and calls fresh elections “immediately”.

Protest locations include a village near the Kerlian border whose MP is a member of Women Rising. The village, with a population of only around 800 people, is 79% female, and is known for the local Kerlian sympathies. This reputation has repelled males from the village and attracted gynarchists from across Zongongia, producing something of a self-fulfilling prophecy and cyclical maintenance of its unusual demographics and reputation.

One further protest is taking place in the tourist town of Havkantsborg on the south-west coast of Zongongia. The ancient walled city now has few permanent residents, but attracts many tourists due to the historical buildings and still-present city walls. Now, protesters have allegedly “expelled” police and security forces from the town and appear to be “patrolling” the medieval town walls – despite the majority of the walls being deemed unsafe to climb. The demonstrators have yet to issue any demands separate from the main bulk of the protests, however police who attempt to approach have had “rocks, debris and buckets of unclean water” thrown in their direction.

The situation is ongoing.
