Election Season Begins in Greater Acadia

Federation City, Greater Acadia – Acadian Federal Election Season has officially kicked off in Greater Acadia, with numerous political parties of all sizes beginning their campaigns. Coalition agreements between parties have been signed, creating a number of blocks vying for control of the Acadian House and Provincial Council. As of now, there appears to be at least four major coalitions, with a few surprising shakeups to be found within them.

To start, the incumbent Social Democratic Party (SDP), led by Prime Minister Christine Belle and President Jean Pierrault, lead the Forward Acadian (FA) Coalition. Comprising five parties including the SDP, the Acadian Greens (AG), Progress Acadia (PA), The Coalition of Acadian Immigrant Families (CAIF), and the Union of Native Acadians (UNA). The only major surprise from this coalition is Prime Minister Christine Belle, who took over for Timothy Gargant after the latter retired for medical issues. That said, her quick ending of the Kerlile Crisis will earn her much favor and ire among certain demographics. Whether this will result in an expansion or contraction of the party and coalition within the legislature remains to be seen.

Following them, the official opposition has coalesced around the Greater Acadian Unity Coalition (GAU). The major party in this alliance being the Federalists, led by Minister Allain St.Pierre. Much like the Forward Acadia Coalition, there are very few surprises here. Much like previous elections, the Presidency is set to go towards the party within the coalition with the largest share of votes, with the next highest grossing party gaining the Prime Ministership. The most likely candidate for the latter role is Shawn Masters of the Veterans Party. Other members include the United Acadian Catholics (UAC) and New Normandy United (NNU).

One surprise is the coalition of the far-left Acadian Socialist Coalition (ASC). Originally concieved as a partnership between Victor Sean of the Acadian Communist Party and Elizabeth Johnston of the United Technocrats, the coalition has also managed to attract the membership of the Acadian Pirate party led by Lex Praedonum, the self-proclaimed Pirate Lord of Great Acadia Bay. This group is, to most political analysts, a rather eclectic alliance with only their left-leaning policies. However, with the recent success of Nina Arana in Milinitca, the Acadian Communists in particular seem confident in their chances at growing their representation within the Acadian Government.

Once again, the True Liberty Alliance has secured the Acadian Far Right, with True Acadia and the Acadian Libertarians entering into an agreement. Their small presence within the Acadian legislature has kept them a minor player in politics. Time will tell if their privatization and military-expansion policies will grant them any gains in this coming race.

A smattering of other, smaller parties remains. Whether these will join the other coalitions, for their own, or go it alone is unknown at this time. Regardless, a few upsets early on is sure to make for an interesting political race.
