Huenya’s Federal Legislature has issued a formal resolution condemning President Vuong Duy Tam of Doi Nam and calling for his immediate resignation.
“The recent massacre of protesters in Ben Bo Bien, along with the car bomb at an opposition rally which preceded it, show just how far President Vuong and his regime will go to uphold their illegitimate rule. The absurdly inflated and clearly false election results that kept Vuong in power also illustrate this all too well. For the sake of freedom and protecting innocent lives, President Vuong must step down, or be encouraged to step down,” the statement read. It was signed by all four members of the Chamber of Executives, and three hundred members of the Chamber of Deputies. President Xiadani also signed the resolution, underscoring Huenyan unity concerning the situation in Doi Nam.
President Xiadani also issued a separate statement about recent remarks by Acadian candidate Sancha Groenbard of the True Acadia party. “Acadians should be wary of Sancha Groenbard, as she clearly aspires to lead her country as her admitted role model Calhualyana rules the Xiomeran Empire. It is my hope that Acadians will continue to pick leadership that continues to uphold Greater Acadia’s proud standing as a democratic nation and one that promotes freedom around the world, rather than tyranny as Groenbard proposes.”
Xiadani also took exception with Groenbard describing Huenya as a “failed state” with a government that is “inept” and “lacks vision.” The President cited statistics showing that Huenya’s economic and security situation are steadily, if slowly, improving under her administration. “Huenya is well along the path of achieving the stability that leads to long term success and strength. The idea that we should let the Empire ‘step in and fix things’ that we are already fixing is ludicrous. The idea that Huenya should be abandoned to the Empire’s will is even more so. We are the ones manning the frontline against the imperialist machinations of Calhualyana and her XCP, and have been for the past three years. Feel free to abandon Huenya to that fight if you eventually want Imperial soldiers on your own shores, or back Huenya as we continue to fight for both our freedom and that of the world.”
Calhualyana praises Vuong, Groenbard
In the usual polar-opposite stance that Xiomera typically takes, Empress Calhualyana of Xiomera praised President Vuong and criticized the Doinamese opposition.
“President Vuong has been a strong and effective leader for the Doinamese people, with a proven track record. By contrast, his opponent Phantasium is a dilettante and anarchist who has chosen to ignore the results of a valid election and instead resort to violence to seize power. The Doinamese people should reject this anarchist agitator and his power-hungry followers.” The Empress pledged to support President Vuong and Doi Nam’s current government “with whatever means that are requested and that Xiomera can provide.” The newly launched I3B investment bank is reportedly preparing a series of proposals for Doi Nam, in a bid to shore up Vuong’s government.
The Empress also took time to acknowledge “the wise and gracious words” of Sancha Groenbard during Groenbard’s recent interview with the Greater Acadian Times. “It is good to see in these challenging times that there are still other leaders in the world who understand the importance of maintaining strong political, social and economic order and harmony. Acadians could do far worse than Ms. Groenbard as a leader. She is indeed correct that Xiomera and Greater Acadia have no need or reason to be at odds with each other, and that both our nations would do better working together rather than against each other.”
Arana insults Vuong, pledges support to Doinamese opposition
In a speech to the Representative Assembly, President Neina Arana of Milintica blasted President Vuong with a series of sharp insults. She also stated that Milintica “will support the Doinamese Liberation Army Corps in any way we can.”
“Vuong – I will not give him honor he doesn’t deserve by calling him president – is a liar, a thief of political power, a tyrant and a murderer,” President Arana told the Assembly. “The government and people of Milintica are gravely concerned by this ongoing tyranny so close to our shores. We would advise Vuong that it is best if he step down voluntarily before the people’s power decides the matter for him in a more permanent way.”
While media reports and polls indicate that many Milinticans support taking a strong stance against Vuong, many Milinticans are also not convinced that Arana is the one to be making the argument. Former President Matōchmizalo, speaking for the Milintican Peoples’ Party, said that “the strength of Arana’s argument is watered down by the hypocrisy behind her own words and actions.”
“There is increasing evidence that Arana’s own election may not have been as legitimate as she claims. Bearing that in mind, she might want to take a seat and let other Milinticans handle this Vuong matter,” Matōchmizalo told reporters. He was quick, however, to add that his criticism of Arana is not support for Vuong. “The Doinamese people deserve better than a tyrant with blood on his hands. Vuong needs to leave office, either voluntarily or involuntarily.”
