The transitional government of Taragai has rejected an offer from Huenya to send an expeditionary force of volunteer soldiers to help fight a Xiomeran-backed rebellion in the west of the country.
“While we are grateful for the offer from Huenya, it is our belief that our current forces, backed by our Hesperidan partners, are sufficient to end the rebellion,” interim Chairman Argasun Qorchi told DTNS. “The addition of yet more foreign forces could only serve to complicate matters on the ground, which would only be of benefit to those seeking to prevent a democratic transition in Taragai.” Qorchi added that while Taragai has asked Huenya not to send the proposed expeditionary force, that a deal has been reached for Huenya to provide arms and supplies to the transitional government’s forces.
Sources within the transitional government told DTNS that Qorchi decided to reject the proposed Huenyan force in order to avoid antagonizing Xiomera. “The transitional government is still hoping to negotiate some kind of compromise with the Xiomerans and the rebels, and adding Huenyan forces to the mix was seen as unnecessarily antagonizing Tlālacuetztla,” a source said. Other sources indicated that Qorchi was also trying to avoid concerns with the government of Misumi, which has been the main backer of the transitional government since rebels under Ebegei Qoriqacha launched their insurrection.
The move to reject the Huenyan volunteer force was sharply criticized by Khadagan Daldurkhan, leader of the Democratic Front. “We should be accepting every single person willing to carry a gun to help us fight off the Xiomeran menace and their puppet Khatun. Rejecting Huenyan help, or anyone’s help, is stupidity,” Daldurkhan said. He added that the poor performance of the transitional government’s forces against the rebels was “another reason we should be accepting whatever help we can get.” Forces of the transitional government have been attempting an offensive against the rebels aimed at the cities of Kharkhorin and Töv. The offensive has stalled badly, however, after Xiomeran forces in those cities began launching massive artillery and missile barrages against government forces in support of Qoriqacha’s troops.
The split between Qorchi and Daldurkhan on whether or not to accept foreign help has emerged as a key issue. Qorchi and his Taragaian People’s Revolutionary Party are running against Daldurkhan and his Democratic Front in Taragai’s first democratic elections scheduled for February 28th, 2025.
