Xiomera to execute opposition leader

The Xiomeran opposition leader Cozamalotl has been sentenced to death by Xiomera’s highest court, after he was found guilty of treason and conspiracy.

Cozamalotl, Xiomera’s most prominent opposition leader and the founder of the Unification Party, was found guilty after he chose to withdraw his previous plea of not guilty. The opposition leader said on August 20th that he was “no longer contesting the charges” that the Xiomeran government had brought against him. Despite the fact that this was a plea of no contest, rather than an admission of guilt, Chief Justice Panxī declared him guilty and sentenced him to execution at the same hearing. The sentence is scheduled to be carried out on August 31st.

The sentence has brought outrage and pleas for mercy from both within Xiomera and around the world. The government of Huenya labeled the sentence “absolute barbarism” and called for the international community to pressure the Xiomeran regime to pardon Cozamalotl, or at least commute his sentence. The government of Milintica issued its own statement warning that Xiomera “is standing on the fine line between tyranny and absolute savagery, and is about to fall over it.” The Milintican Representative Assembly unanimously passed a resolution condemning the sentence and calling for “complete isolation” of the Xiomeran regime in response.

Media reports have emerged of scattered protests in Xiomera against the sentence by supporters of Cozamalotl, which have been harshly suppressed by Imperial security forces and XCP-affiliated groups. Protests have also taken place in Huenya and Milintica.

Xiomera’s government has refused to acknowledge any criticism of the sentence, calling it an internal matter.
