Concerning Movements on the Border Increase Worries of Imminent Invasion

Inqaukosuwuk, Whetosonghnee – Further reports from the military suggest that Eikangard may be building up for a full scale invasion, following their ongoing rotating air campaign. Military reconnaissance has reported the construction of a number of ammunition depots, logistics bases, and field hospitals near the border. Such moves are unusual for the Eikan side considering the closeness and size of these bases, particularly regarding the field hospitals, as large treament facilities are not needed for training exercises.

“I think Eikangard is preparing for war in this case.” Said Dr. Alvin Running Horse, professor of foreign affairs at Inwaukosuwuk University. “You don’t see these kinds of military movements regularly. These usually precede armed conflict. You need to have a support base ready to maintain a high combat tempo for a long period of time. The kind of thing you see in near-peer conflicts like what the Eikans have been threatening for months. The field hospitals in particular are worrying. You don’t build those unless you’re expecting casualties in combat.”

The Central Government has issued a press release following this news, calling for citizens to “remain on alert” and to “ready to evacuate or shelter-in-place if necessary.” Military readiness has reportedly been increased across the armed forces, and units are reportedly being sent to reinforce critical areas. Video captured by citizens and posted to social media has shown military movements from towns or cities. The deployment of air-defense batteries in and around the capital have been the subject of much discussion in the past 24hrs on the social media platform Tweety.

Nonetheless, the public appears to be somewhat optimistic, with most continuing to deny that they believe an invasion is imminent. “It’s just the Eikans being the Eikans.” Said one interviewee. “They do this kind of stuff all the time. Just rattle the sabers and whine that they aren’t getting their way. They’ve been doing this for decades. Right now is just a high point. Things will calm down eventually.”
